The Therapist III PhD (rehabilitation psychologist) provides a broad range of behavioral health services to persons with difficulties adjusting to health changes, managing physical impairments and other disabilities, and adapting to their rehabilitation environment and/or home and community environment following hospital discharge. The therapist in this position provides mental health assessments and psychotherapeutic treatment, establishes treatment plans that may include coordination with other professional services, provides consultation and education about behavioral health issues and treatment, and performs other duties as assigned. The population served includes persons with stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, multiple trauma, and other neurological or medically complex conditions. Primarily works with adult outpatients, and is expected to provide back-up to the psychologist serving Regions Hospital acute inpatient rehabilitation. This therapist is an integral part and effective member of the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team.

Qualifications:

Require Doctorate degree in Psychology (Psy D or PhD); License to practice independently as Licensed Psychologist (LP).

Require a minimum of two years of supervised clinical experience with a broad range of presenting problems and therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and solution-focused brief therapy. Desired skills also include treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, sleep issues, pain, health behaviors, sexuality in the presence of impairments, family issues; team coordination; and ability to shape and contribute future program growth and services. The candidate with experience in evaluation and treatment of persons with mild to severe brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputations, and trauma in a rehabilitation setting is preferred.

* Knowledge of the values, principles and methodologies in the treatment of mental illness
* Familiarity and competence with providing diagnostic assessments.
* Familiarity and competence with providing psychological testing to assist in assessments and establishment of treatment plans
* Ability to integrate social, medical and psychotherapeutic data in order to form a treatment plan and provide appropriate interventions (therapy, psycho education, crisis intervention, skill training, etc.)
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with patients, families, co-workers, external providers, and other organizations
* Sensitivity and competence of cross-cultural issues.
